AN ODE TO LIFE

THE OTHER SHOES

Your heart may just be as broken as mine when you hear this; IT’S NOT ABOUT SHOES! But…

“The mind once enlightened cannot again become dark”. -Thomas Paine

Experience enlightens the mind. It has placed at my disposal the runtown rundown of life; Good, Sweet, Bad, Bitter-Sweet and Embarrassing. I repeat, Embarrassing! I have encountered embarrassing and EMMBBBAAAARRRRRAAAASSSSSINNNNG moments. Asides silly mistakes of musical blunder, I vividly recall my almost perfect diva street-walk.

In gossip mood, I walked Tee down to the bus-stop, it was easy to get a shuttle (this reminds me of our adjourned gossip). However, I had to return back alone. Then, it happened, like pack of wolves, these group of young men were seated by the street corner probably looking for young girls to whistle at, but I am the girl who gives an attitude to scare such off. Ha ha! As I majestically walked down the sloppy route to my destination, feeling like Gigi Hadid of my own world, I tripped and the next thing… I found myself on the stony ground. It was obvious they expected the fall. I still remember the resounding rhythm of their laughter which spelt E.V.I.L in Laugh Language.

The experience produced a feeling of psychosocial pain but if I was in their shoes, would I have acted differently?

The Other Shoe!

Recently, I was blessed with a favourable situation in which I wore two different shoes.

Annie and I sat with our lovely friends, sharing our table with us was this young man who just beside him was his bae. It was a wedding, a grand one. Hence, there was a special menu. I observed that this man neither knows the bride nor the groom but he knows the best man. That qualified  him for all the special numbers (Moët, Hennessy, Almighty Asun etc.). He bounced on each as they come while we officially joined the on-lookers club. Heaven knows all I said about this man. To me, it was unfair!

Nevertheless, during our fun chat with the beautiful bride, our friend, she got to know that we only perceived the aroma of the special numbers, without hesitation, she ordered delicious dessert for us. Then, she took us to the burger stand and made another order there. As I stretched forth my hand to pick mine, I looked at the queue of beautiful people waiting on what I didn’t have to wait for. I felt bad, I knew at that point, I was just like the young man with bae. One of these people would had probably thought like I did earlier… It was unfair!

“Before you criticize a man, walk a mile in his shoes. That way, when you do criticize him, you’ll be a mile away and have his shoes.” -Steve Martin

This is maybe an awkward story to learn from but atleast understand the reason I started off with Thomas Paine’s quote. Experience lights up the mind!!!

Life is in phases. God has fashioned everybody to achieve certain feat at different times. Therefore, the success of another man shouldn’t be a discouragement but rather a propeller of your determination to achieve yours. Nobody deserves less! However, as you are steady on your lane, try not to judge the slow or fast movement of others. You might have mastered the perfect act of wearing your shoe that it hurts no more but “the other shoes” might just be tougher than they seem.

LETTER FROM PAPA

Akùùdo m,

Nda otu i melu?

Last week, I wrote to you on taking ACTION but you should also know that as your desire for a change sets imagination into action, a continuous action is needed to turn it into reality, hence, NEVER GIVE UP.

Ponder on this quote by Thomas Edison; “Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.” This reminds me of the viral image of a man digging for gold, he dug for hours, you know the weight of a digger, so I will be right to say it was a hard labour. However, this man gave up, at exactly the point where he needed to go one more time to get to the treasure. Just a step would have made a CHANGE.

Juuju daddy ya, that your dream has not come true, does not mean that is it all over. Be persistent! Don’t be discouraged for such obstacles are bound to happen. Every good venture has obstacles to confront and the ability to overcome them leads you to achieving your vision.

Change is permanent; it is the most dreaded thing. Change is not achieved so easily but it is better to stick to it and be positive in thought. Ada nna ya, be persistent for change to take place. At every point you feel like giving up, take one more step in the right direction.

Chukwu gozie gi, Ada m

AN ODE TO LIFE

L’AMOUR IN STRANGE PLACES

Bugging my mother with questions has been one of my numerous manières of expressing my love to her. She deals with questions like; “Mummy, when you first saw daddy, did your heart go like kpukutum kpukutum?” “Mummy, where did you first meet daddy?” Most times, I rephrase the last question and pose it again, waiting to hear “We met at mummy Chuuchuu’s place.”  That sentence tickles me in 3D. The best part is seeing my mother blush.

Love Story! It evolves just like time.

Snap out of the flashback! It is new school time!

It’s 2017, the year of sliding into DMs to connect with the one (InstaFindLove, FaceLove etc.). However, it is impossible to say how totally true it is. I mean, there are 1000 ways to die meet the one.

Calm down! I am not a love guru so don’t expect tips from me but as usual, I have a story, a love story with life lessons.

“Funny but true story. We didn’t meet like any other regular couple. I remember losing my former line, then, going to MTN office for a welcome back everyday for three months wasn’t beans. I didn’t get back my line because I couldn’t remember the name I used in registering the sim. Well, I got a new one and the first call I received was you!!! Wrong number, I kept telling you it’s a wrong number but you kept calling back… From let me see who I have been talking to… To look at us now!!!”

“What seems to us as bitter trails are often blessings in disguise.” – Oscar Wilde

Chidiogo lost her sim to gain the love of her life, Chris!

Ponder on that first lesson and get ready for the next.

Ready, Go!

A day before Chris called, he never knew the next day will be an unforgettable day in his life time. Unforgettable? Yes! It was the first time he heard the voice of his wife. The unexpected love! This is proof that love exists even in the ‘Any’, Anytime, Anywhere and of course, Anyone.

However, it is not strange to find love in strange places, what is strange is our inability most times to identify whether it is true or not, whether it has come to stay or to break us down despite our intelligence. Nevertheless, Chris and Chidiogo saw meeting in a strange place as a blank cheque, then, filled in friendship, love, companionship and finally cashed a “forever with you”… Marriage!

Chris knew what he needed, he found it in a belle who was at that time a stranger, he went for her and he never gave up.

I hope you are not expecting me to say; ‘be like Chris’. Mba! but I would rather say…

It takes self discovery to identify your needs and it takes dedication and the “never give up” attitude to satisfy your needs. Chris’ “never give up” attitude got him his priceless jewel.

So, are you passionate about something, anything and you are working on it but it is yet to work out, all you can do now is give up? Think again!!

Don’t think I am diverting, it’s just that I believe an experience from any aspect of life can be a lesson for the other aspect of life.

On a final note, congratulation Chidiogo and Chris!!!
