AUNTIE SABI

In my heart exist a mini part with contagious love for holidays!!!

Maybe cause when I think Holidays, I think SLEEP… but like Simone Elkeles stated; “But wishes are only granted in fairy tales.” Ofcourse, I enjoy chilling with young people but that is more of reality than fairy tales… so, it is certain that this “Sleep Wish” is slightly in an extravagant way unattainable.

Here is the tale;

I was relaxing on the brown couch with my face resting on its fat arm. I could hear my younger cousins chatting quietly but I was more interested in perceiving the aroma of the roasted corn I devoured less than eight minutes ago with them.

Then one of them announced excitedly; “Barney is pregnant and she’s due“.

Ah ah!! Barney ke, pregnant… I quickly countered her; “Barney is a man, how can he be pregnant?” Well, that is possible in the present world but nevertheless…

I believed that was the end but I was wrong… the three of them responded with so much confidence; “Barney is a woman!”

Ewo oo!!! My whole life is a joke nahh… Mana bia! Last time was Winnie the Pooh is a girl. “That’s it!!!” I concluded that I won’t believe any Animated TV Series again!! Who knows who is next… Maybe Sponge Bob? Or my favourites, Mordecai or Rigby of the regular show? Or Robin and my guy, Beast boy of Teen Titans Go?

Suddenly, the voice of my cousin snapped me out of my thoughts which inhaled and exhaled annoyance. I asked with a confused face “Eeeeh, what did you say?” She repeated; “Auntie Uju, who do you think we are talking about?
I replied in a rather sarcastic tone; “how many Barneys do you know on TV?” They all laughed which was quite ironical because I should be the one laughing not them.
However, the youngest amongst them answered; “Auntie Uju is not the Barney and friends ooo. We are talking about the character, BANI in the Zee World’s series, The Promise!!!

Quite disappointing, right?

Auntie SABI

Sabi as in the Nigerian pidgin word which represents the verb “to KNOW“. Yeah, I got an information, I had opportunity of verifying or simply asking “Which BARNEY?” rather I jumped in to defend the already existing knowledge. I was very keen in defending, that I forgot the word Barney may not be limited and could have different spellings. Then, I had the situation mixed up, came to a conclusion and called my amazing life and the awesome love I share with animated tv series A JOKE!!

Not unfortunate as this doesn’t seem serious but out there…
We give up not recognising our worths, or acknowledging the presence of the strength within because we never tried to discover their existence!!!

We wail, regret our past, hate on those who embellished their footprints on it and magnify present challenges thereby forcing the naked solution which is right before us into extinction!!!

We refuse to find the root of our challenges, we refuse to learn more… we shut down other options and embrace just what we know.

We burn down bridges to destroy the connection with life at the other side which we see as the enemy forgetting that the enemy lives within us, IGNORANCE. Ignorance not that we don’t know… Ignorance for we know only what we know and have refused to seek.

Let go of your attachment to being right, and suddenly your mind is more open. You’re able to benefit from the unique viewpoints of others, without being crippled by your own judgment.”
