“Auntie Vicky, your phone is ringing.”

I was looking at the phone but never noticed it was ringing, I was lost in thought. Mood swing defined the day before and drew in to that morning; I was irritated by the littlest of all. The solution power within the walls of my thought provided no answer to what the challenge may be; talk more of the way out. However, the tiny voice of the young girl beside me awakened my consciousness.

Yeah, Annie was calling!!

I was yet to understand myself, which meant that I wasn’t ready to explain to anyone, hence, I cleared my voice and sounded happy; “Hi, Annie… What’s up?” She muttered; “Uju, onyinye is dead.” Lobatan!!! It was worse than imagined. A rather unpleasant way to start a week or a day or a minute or anything… IT SHOULDN’T JUST HAPPEN!!!

Why work so hard when death means automatic loss of ownership?
It is inevitable right? Then, what is the purpose of life?
Why live and toil for a better life that never lasts forever?

Death is maliciously creative that it manipulates one into asking questions they had never imagined. Beware! Never let it take the best of you, it is impossible to say how possible the answers satisfy your search.

The next day, I felt better maybe because I embraced the only consolation which was that our friend has joined the train of endless joy. I am sure she would love it there in heaven. However, those questions were yearning for answers but I paid more attention to my little friends. As usual they placed me on the hot seat, then, I changed the topic, I turned to one of them, Bella. I would describe her as an Encarta for kids; she is quite knowledgeable for a four year old. I asked; “Bella, why are you in this world?” She paused, maybe a little confused because it had nothing to do with what we were talking about. At that moment, my little five year old man left, he found something more exciting than my clueless question. Bella stayed, hummed and replied; “Well, God wants me to experience and enjoy all the beautiful things he has created, like beautiful plants, my family, friends and He wants me to help other people also.” I was stunned.

Don’t be surprised when your life puzzle is solved in the place you least expected.

Reminisce on this
You move into a new flat, you have the choice of furnishing it. What would you make out of it?

So is life, it is what we make out of it. Someday, it wouldn’t be about the certificates, the money, the cars, the houses or mansions, but about the COPIES OF OURSELVES we have left behind. All I could remember about our friend was the moments spent with her. Especially the last time, we were all chilling at a wedding, laughing, talking and sharing our personal experience. We danced together and believe me; I vividly remember she made me laugh uncountable times on that day. Here I am, wondering if I ever left my footprint in the sand of her time, if at all I left a copy of me with her just like she did with me.

“It does not matter how long you are spending on the earth, how much money you have gathered or how much attention you have received. It is the amount of positive vibration you have radiated in life that matters.” – Amit Ray

Be the best of you
Experience the beautiful gifts of life
Make the best out of life
Leave copies of yourself embedded in hearts

And just like Ralph Waldo Emerson stated; “Write it on your heart that every day is the best day in the year”.
