Skinny Girl In Transit is a humorous and entertaining Nigerian webseries which generated an accurate connection with true life. It was created by Temilola Akinmuda for NdaniTV.

The series commenced in 2015 but it took me up to April, 2019 to watch it. Then, it took me a glance on the first episode to become a sucker for it. The drama of mama Tiwa, the composure of Baba Tiwa, the indestructible nature of Tiwa, Shalewa’s melange of pettiness and true love, the poise of Mide and the true nature of all the characters. I am NOT A FILM CRITIC but I am an exciting human who finds joy in sharing with the world the lessons that spring up from events. Hence, kindly calm down the unfamiliar expectation of a total breakdown and review of the movie.

While on the season finale of season 5, as I listened to the intense vow of Mide, I could hear my thought…

“Nna ehh! This movie shook buffet tables too oo… buffet tables of relationship and truth.”

At that moment, I called Mma’s attention to my thought. She replied; “but Juu, it is not for all… what works for you may not work for me”. Ijay also cited that same point and they are right but I still stood on my ground… I said; “THIS IS FOR ALL!!”

From the hole of all affairs addressed and yet to be addressed, the medical, financial, religion, secrets, family, loss, belief and the haunt from the past… I was advised by Ijay to uproot the result of Tiwa’s experience that seems hidden, the experience that was so entertaining that we could barely see the result, the experience that bore results which excited me most.

Tiwa Awosika, the beautiful on-air personality took us down the route of Self Love and Discovery.

In season 1, Tiwa displayed an inattentive attitude towards everything except on her dreams of restarting her past relationship which ended for her weight sake. Her weight was a problem not only to her ex-boyfriend, Kola but to her younger sister Shalewa and her mother. Shalewa would make a monkey out of her past relationship even while she informed her that Kola was engaged to a slim girl, it was more like a rub off on Tiwa’s face than sympathy.

Well, Tiwa started working out, she upgraded herself all round and moved from Just Tiwa to Tiwa 3.0! I vividly recall how she admitted to Mide that she switched things up because of her breakup and also because she needed a fresh start. This could be a funny reason to switch things up but the best part is that it happened.

Naturally, Tiwa was confident and indestructible, she had the best reply on her lips for anyone who dared prey on her. She was strongwilled and friendly. Nevertheless, we journeyed with her as she recognised every aspects of her true self. She was an awesome and natural speaker who could be great even on TV shows but when that did not happen, she blamed it on her weight. However, as she took interest in making the best out of who she was, she modelled for a plus size fashion line and then excelled, to a Tv Show. Finally, she exchanged vows with a man who loved her and all of her.

As humans, we have our insecurities, if it is not the size, then, it is the shape or maybe the birthmark or the stretch marks, never forget the skin colour and height. And as odd as it may sound these insecurities limit us… Nah! We feed our insecurities, we give them so much power to limit us. We hear words spitting right into our mind;

Is of no use, they will never like me for I am ugly.
I hate to say this but do you think I will make it to the final stage, I am fat!
I would have gotten the shoe if I have better feet, so let me stick to the usuals.
She won’t even look at me, my body is obviously not her type.
My nose is too long
My skin is too dark

We go on on on! We want to be perfect forgetting that beauty is far beyond perfection. Beauty is not limited and the best of perfection is being you with grace! Self Love is acknowledging your worth and staying true to yourself being fully aware that you are the best of yourself , hence, being better is being a better you. Living a healthy and worthy life, identifying and managing your emotions, recognising your weakness and encouraging your strength.

Tiwa’s insecurity was her weight. She worked on it but while working out and depriving herself of all the carbs, she took care of her body. She wore beautiful dresses that fit, she explored the world of hair and makeup. She was BEAUTIFUL and her PERFECT SELF. Honestly, I cannot imagine a skinny TIWA! And truth be told, following the universal rating is absurd… Today, skinny is the trend and tomorrow, it’s all about the thick skin. I am sure Derin thought she was the game but did you catch a glimpse of her face when Chris’ sister educated her on how thick and well fed Chris’ ex-girlfriends are… LOL
I am certain she never expected that in her wildest dream. Skinny was bae to her but to another percentage of the world, skinny was a thing for people who starve themselves!

Stay true to YOURSELF!

“You can be the most beautiful person in the world and everybody sees light and rainbows when they look at you. But if you yourself don’t know it, all of that doesn’t matter. Every second that you spend on doubting your worth, every moment that you use to criticize yourself; is a second of your life thrown away. It’s not like you have forever, so don’t waste any of your seconds. Don’t throw even one of your moments away”.

Between, I hope Skinny Girl In Transit hasn’t ended? Hmmm…. Shalewa and Mohammed, they are another pair asides Derin and Chris, I would want to see soonest!!!
